Sloe Paul & Minoa

Sloe Paul is a project of Berlin based musician and producer Paul Abbrecht. As a multi-instrumentalist and with a past as a live and studio player in various bands, he has found in Sloe Paul a way to celebrate the subtle differences, to push boundaries without breaking them and to play his very own definition of pop music. This then sounds sometimes like Steely Dan, sometimes like R. Stevie Moore. Between Motown borrowings and excursions into folk and shoegaze you can hear an independent sound and unconventional arrangements. This melange with its origins in LoFi and DIY culture has developed steadily over 2 LPs, a split 7" and various collaborations.

Live Sloe Paul plays as a five-piece band with Marius Schwingel on bass, Tim Bohner on drums, Marcus Schreiter on guitar, Marius Moses Alsleben on synths, guitar and vocals and Paul Abbrecht on keys and vocals. For the first time Sloe Paul also presents tracks that were written & arranged as a band.

“Forward, Backward, Start Again”, Minoa’s debut album was released via the Berlin label Listenrecords. Minoa, who’s real name is Ina Klos, is singer, songwriter, musician and composer. She was born in Houston, Texas and grew up in a small town nearby Hanover, Germany.

Within the eight songs on the album Minoa reveals an extraordinary sense for songwriting and melodies and wraps it up in an unconventional, yet international appearing e-guitar sound, that does not have to hide behind the big ones the scene has to offer, like Julia Jacklin, Big Thief, Angel Olsen, Soccer Mommy or Snail Mail. The vocal performance of the professionally trained singer and voice actress shows off a captivating and emotionally moving quality.
